Good Tricks On Molding
Molding can be really done in many different ways. Some of its methods are more delicate than others and will only work with a specific nozzle used. It must be done in stages, and it’s probably best to work from the outside in. Before you try to secure the final piece, first apply a layer of release coating around its perimeter to make sure the headlight will pop off cleanly. To give you an idea of how it is being done, here are the common techniques:
Stacking
If you are attempting to match the shape of pre-existing moldings, it will work better if they are stacked on top of one another. Or, you can use a face-filing technique, which will give you a flat surface to work with.
Beveling
Beveling is when its ends are notched, or beveled, to create a sharp corner instead of a rounded one. It is often used with baseboards because it gives you a place to fasten them so the baseboards will be flushed. This type of technique can be extremely difficult to work with because the beveled corner will catch on the baseboards.
Attaching
Try to avoid using just wood glue when fastening molding to wood. While it is still commonly used, in most cases, two different adhesives are better. Use wood glue and a high-strength adhesive. Air drying wood glue will work well; however, it doesn’t have all the holding power of a urethane, which is what you will get when using contact cement.
